New Ways for Life is an easy method for teaching 4 Big Skills that can help any young person age 12-17 prepare for managing life’s challenges and gaining confidence in the years to come. This Instructor’s Guide can be used by individual coaches or group facilitators of any kind—teachers, youth group leaders, scout leaders, and others—in group or individual sessions with young people using their own Youth Journal as a companion to this Instructor’s Guide.

New Ways for Life is designed to reduce bullying in schools and social media, help resolve friendship conflicts, manage family conflicts, eliminate violence at home and in schools, and reduce stress levels.

The Instructor Guide helps the leader or coach assist the young person in learning the 4 Big Skills that can help anyone for a lifetime:

The Authors

BILL EDDY is a lawyer, therapist, mediator, and the co-founder and training director of the High Conflict Institute. He was The Senior Family Mediator at the National Conflict Resolution Center for 15 years, a Certified Family Law Specialist lawyer representing clients in family court for 15 years, and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker therapist with twelve years of experience. Currently he serves on the faculty of the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at the Pepperdine University School of Law in California and is a Conjoint Associate Professor with the University of Newcastle Law School in Australia. He has been a speaker and trainer in over 30 U.S. states and 10 countries. He is the author or co-author of sixteen books and has a popular blog on the Psychology Today website with over 3.5 million views. Bill lives in San Diego, California with his wife.

SUSIE RAYNER is a mediator, co-parenting coach and founder of Mediate Negotiate, a family dispute resolution practice in Australia. Prior to becoming a dedicated family dispute resolution practitioner and family coach in 2018, she held positions in the corporate arena for 20 years. She also works in other areas of dispute resolution and volunteers with organizations that support people in crisis, particularly the fires of 2019-2020 in Australia. Susie lives in Mentone, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia with her husband and her two teenage boys (and a dog).
